Why Run

This year, we launched the First Annual Turkey Trot 5K to bring our community together for a fun, active, and meaningful way to support neighbors in need during the holiday season. The event was created to raise funds and awareness for Riverside’s Social Services programs.

Thank you to everyone who joined us on Randall’s Island! Because of your support, we’ve raised over $10,000 to provide critical services like food, housing assistance, clothing, and emergency aid.

Beyond fundraising, the Turkey Trot was about building community, celebrating generosity, and creating a shared experience, where every step taken helps provide meals, hope, and stability for families in our city. By running, walking, or participating virtually, supporters of all ages made a direct, tangible difference in the lives of our neighbors in need.

While the in-person race has ended, the need in our community has not. Riverside’s Social Services programs continue to meet families at their most critical moments, providing food, hope, and support when it’s needed most.

This past week, our Food Pantry served 1,011 families, a dramatic increase, as many neighbors face gaps in SNAP benefits and rising costs of living. Each guest received a turkey and extra bags of fresh produce, thanks to the dedication of our staff, volunteers, and supporters. Behind every number is a family striving to make ends meet, and your generosity ensures they don’t have to face these challenges alone.
