Freedom Ride in Defense of Democratic Rights
June 8-13

The Riverside Church is joining, The Interfaith Center of New York, IFCO/Pastors of Peace and The People’s Forum for a Freedom Ride in Defense of Democratic Rights. The Freedom Ride is a grassroots, interfaith journey from Newark, NJ to Jena, LA, mobilizing immigrant communities, activists, and faith leaders to demand justice, dignity, and democratic rights. Starting in Newark—a sanctuary city facing immigrant detention abuses—the ride travels through Southern civil rights landmarks, ending in Jena, a symbol of resistance. It responds to the Trump administration’s escalating attacks on immigrants, workers, and constitutional rights. With demands for humane immigration policies, protection of the social safety net, and unity across struggles, the Freedom Ride invokes the legacy of past movements to educate, organize, and advocate for justice for all.

Demand our Mayoral Candidates make Housing Affordability a priority!

Riverside stood in solidarity with over 2,000 New Yorkers demanding that Mayoral Candidates commit to working with Metro-IAF on the issues raised by our city’s most vulnerable residents. Among the key concerns: affordable housing.

In this election year, join our partners at Housing Justice for All and support the Rent Freeze campaign.

70% of New Yorkers rent. We are the backbone of New York. Tenants are the cooks, cleaners, nurses, teachers, and bus drivers who keep this city running every day. Without us, New York wouldn’t be the city we all love.

Rising rents are pushing us out. Housing costs are our biggest expense each month.

Tenants are the majority in New York. Together, we have the power to elect a mayor who will freeze the rent. By building a voting bloc of thousands of tenants, we can elect leadership that works for us—not for real estate interests.

Sign the petition to tell every mayoral candidate:
WE NEED A RENT FREEZE!

Rebuilding the Sacred Hearts of Our Community will bring together faith-based organizations, housing advocates, financial institutions, and public leaders to explore how we can collaborate more effectively to support affordable housing and community revitalization. As we engage in this work alongside faith communities, we continue to uncover both powerful opportunities and critical challenges.
