“How do you not know that this is what you were put on earth to do”

In the story of Esther, a young Jewish woman becomes queen in the Persian empire. When a powerful official plots to destroy the Jewish people, Esther’s cousin Mordecai urges her to speak to the king and intervene. Approaching the king without being summoned could cost Esther her life, yet she gathers her community to fast and pray before courageously stepping forward. Esther risks her safety, confronts the injustice, and ultimately helps save her people.
Today, there are powerful officials plotting to destroy immigrants, refugees, Muslims, Jews, Queer folx, women and children. There is a king illegally dropping bombs and declaring wars on other nations. But Esther’s story reminds us that ordinary people can play extraordinary roles in moments of crisis. Like Esther, we may find ourselves in places where our voice, courage, and solidarity can help protect others and challenge injustice. It’s not easy but the moment demands it. And like Esther, we may discover that we are exactly where we are for such a time as this.
Consider stepping into one or more of the actions below:
March 10: NY Renews Advocacy Day

At last Monday’s Advocacy training, we learned about the impact of speaking to our elected representatives.
ICE thugs are abducting our friends and neighbors. New Yorkers are struggling to afford rent, food, and childcare. And Governor Hochul is backtracking on NY’s climate commitments by approving fossil fuel pipelines and threatening to destroy the state’s climate law. As New Yorkers of faith, we know that this goes against everything we know to be good and just.
That’s why, on March 10th, GreenFaith is joining a mass mobilization in Albany to demand that Governor Hochul do her job and protect New York communities from ICE raids, sky-high costs, and the existential threat of the climate crisis.
Buses will be traveling from multiple regions across the state to bring people to Albany, because when we move together, we win together.
March 19: Resistance Sign-In at The Riverside Church

For anyone who wishes to bring music into public witness and collective action, join our Resistance Sing-In with Resistance Revival Chorus and Singing Resistance on March 19, and learn songs to respond courageously to rising authoritarianism.
These songs will be put to use at the No Kings March on the 28th, as well as Hands Off NYC actions. The evening will be a celebration of people coming together, finding their voices, and sustaining one another.

March 28: No Kings 3

On March 28th, we will join the No Kings march to declare that America does not belong to greedy billionaires or those who rule through fear. It belongs to us, the people. As people of faith, we are called to protect our neighbors and stand against unjust and cruel policies that harm the most vulnerable. Come walk with our church contingent. Bring your prayers, your signs, and your hope. Let’s show up together for justice and love. Register here to receive information about meetup time and location: No Kings March, March 28 Registration Form
Art IN, ICE Out
Every Sunday leading up to No Kings, we will be creating posters and signs in South Hall during fellowship hour. Even if you can’t march with us, come and create a poster!
