Love made Public

In Matthew 6, Jesus invites us into the quiet. Not because public action does not matter, but because faithful action needs a grounded center. “Beware of practicing your righteousness before others,” he says, naming the temptation to confuse visibility with faithfulness.

This Lent, Jesus calls us to prayerful discernment. To step into the inner room and ask not, “How can I be seen doing good?” but,“God, what is my role in this moment?” The work of justice is collective. Not everyone is called to the mic or the headline. Love made public is also practiced in organizing behind the scenes, offering resources, caring for those on the front lines, building trust and praying without ceasing. All of it matters.

Community organizing and advocacy are sustained not by individual righteousness, but by shared commitment and deep alignment with God’s call. Prayer helps us listen for how we are meant to contribute, so our actions support the movement rather than center ourselves. In the quiet, God loosens our need for recognition and sharpens our sense of responsibility to one another.

When we pray first, our public witness becomes a response to God’s call. We move with humility, trust the wisdom of the collective, and show up where we are most needed.
