Prayers + Petitions: Millennial Leaders Forging the Future Initiative

Riverside’s Mission and Social Justice Commission has partnered with Faith 2020 and Union Seminary to launch an initiative we’re calling “Prayers + Petitions: Millennial Leaders Forging the Future,” where we will be hosting a series of virtual events geared toward millennial leaders in hopes of increasing Millennial civic engagement in states that are crucial to the upcoming election.

We’ve already worked with various faith leaders, activists, community organizers, and social entrepreneurs on the ground around the country, and, throughout September and October, we will be hosting events in eight key cities: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Dayton, Ohio; Grand Rapids, Michigan; Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Charlotte, North Carolina; Orlando, Florida; Atlanta, Georgia; and Phoenix, Arizona.

These events will focus on the intersection of faith and justice; and leaders will speak specifically about how we can build coalitions to move the needle concerning: racial justice, criminal justice, food justice, gender justice, environmental justice, economic justice, and healthcare.

Additionally, to help mobilize Millennials, our Mission and Social Justice department will provide several mini-grants—ranging between $250 and $1,000—to organizations in these eight states to ensure that as many people as possible have the resources they need to help get souls to the polls in November.
