Congregational Care

Volunteers of this ministry are responsible for showing care and compassion for our fellow congregants in need. They attend to the care of congregants by calling, emailing, sending cards, or visiting congregants who experience bereavement, who are on the prayer list read every Sunday, and who no longer attend church in person due to their age. Rev. Tim Dalton creates a list for each volunteer in September. Volunteers keep a record of interactions with these members, which is shared with Rev. Tim. When we learn something important or concerning, we make sure to bring it to Rev. Tim’s attention. In addition, once per month, Rev. Tim’s office prepares a care card for each member on the prayer list, so other members of the church can sign it at a table set up in South Hall and overseen by volunteers. Members of this ministry received training to strengthen our communication practices so we are good listeners and understand our purpose during these encounters, which is to be a compassionate listener, not an expert or a fixer.

Time Commitment: Volunteers contact 5-10 members on their list a minimum of once per month. Establishing the best time to interact with the member should be discussed with the member.
