We celebrated Riverside’s 90th anniversary with our annual Riverside Church Homecoming, a celebration of the strength of our community, on Sunday, October 4, 2020 – nearly 90 years to the day of our first service held on October 5, 1930. While this year was definitely different – due to COVID-19 we gathered and celebrated virtually – we still had many fun experiences and reflections to make the day special for all!

History of Riverside Small Group Class

Facilitated By Riverside Archivists Diane Russo and Vince Kelley
In honor of Riverside’s 90th Anniversary, this survey-style course discusses key points in Riverside’s history in the past 90 years, with each class centered around a specific theme. Additionally, for each class, we will bring archival materials to pass around/examine. Vincent Kelley and Diane Russo will likely co-teach the class, with some special guests for different topics. We’ll explore themes such as: MLK at Riverside and Civil Rights, Harry Emerson Fosdick, Riverside’s Building, art and architecture, Maranatha and LGBTQ history at Riverside, William Sloane Coffin and Vietnam/Disarmament and Sanctuary and more!
