Election Protection Volunteer Training

October 3 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

As people of faith, we believe in the sacred dignity of every person and in the call to love our neighbors in tangible ways, including standing up for their right to be heard. With the midterm elections approaching, there is growing concern about the safety and fairness of our elections, along with a desire in our community to understand how we can help protect our democracy and ensure that every eligible New Yorker can cast their ballot and have it counted.

Scripture calls us to seek justice and care for the most vulnerable among us. Protecting the right to vote is one concrete way we live out that calling, helping ensure that no one is turned away, intimidated, or silenced when they show up to make their voice heard.

Join us for a poll monitoring training with Hands Off Our Vote. You’ll learn how to support your neighbors and your community by understanding voting rights, practicing de-escalation techniques, and learning how to respond calmly and effectively to issues that may arise at the polls.

Hands Off Our Vote is a coordinated effort led by Common Cause New York and partners across the state, and we’re proud to bring this important training into our own community.

We are far from powerless when it comes to protecting the lifeblood of our democracy: the right to vote. But it will take all of us doing our part—praying for our elections, strengthening our laws, encouraging participation, and showing up for voters at the polls. As Galatians 6:9 reminds us, “Let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.”

This training welcomes both new volunteers and experienced organizers. You’ll leave with practical tools and resources to serve as a poll monitor and to help share this training with others in your congregation and community.
