Beyond the Dream

Exactly one year before his April 4, 1968 assassination, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. stood in The Riverside Church to deliver his Beyond Vietnam address against the sins of poverty, racism, and militarism. 50 years after these events, our nation praises King and pays tribute to his dream while we are closer than ever to being torn apart by the evils he gave his life to oppose.

Confronted by the fierce urgency of now, The Riverside Church has launched Beyond the Dream: Living King’s Legacy, a year of education and action to call us toward a more just and peaceful society. Beginning with the 50th anniversary of King’s Riverside speech on April 4, 2017 and spanning to the 50th of his assassination on April 4, 2018, Beyond the Dream will be highlighted by major events featuring activists and prominent voices for social justice. Throughout the year, Riverside will distribute multi-media resources and live stream content to open these critical conversations to communities across our nation.
