Joy to the World? (Rev. Jim Keat, ft. Rev. Amanda Meisenheimer)
“The subtle power of this song is that forces me to confront the reality that I am perfectly content singing joy to my world, or maybe even our world, so long as I like the people around me. But joy to the whole world?”
If you’re honest, who are the people that you do not want to have joy? What difference would it make if you prayer for “joy to the world” could extend to them as well?
Psalm 98: 4-6
Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth;
break forth into joyous song and sing praises.
Sing praises to the Lord with the lyre,
with the lyre and the sound of melody.
With trumpets and the sound of the horn
make a joyful noise before the King, the Lord.
Joy to the world; the Lord is come; let earth receive her King:
Let every heart prepare him room, and heaven and nature sing.
-Isaac Watts
