There Is No “Enough”

We are not enough.
Because there is no “enough”.

There is nothing to add, nothing to do, nothing to give. No report card to turn in.
It’s just You.

Not you, but fifty pounds thinner.
Not you, after you are sober.
Not you, but with regular church attendance.
You, as you are, right now.

God delights in you.

God does not despise your brokenness, but welcomes the shattered places of your soul into loving light.

God accepts your exhaustion, your trauma, your loss, your pain, and bathes you in glory. Like a loving parent bathes a child.

The cleansing waters of the spirit reach high tide in the fissures where you have been rejected and scorned by the ones who were supposed to love you.

The purifying baptism of God’s Holy presence, disinfects the lies you’ve been told, the lies you have told, and the names you’ve been called.

God calls you Blessed. God calls you child. And you are enough.

What difference does it make to know that God loves and accepts you, exactly as you are?

Psalm 51:1-2, 15-17
Have mercy on me, O God,
according to your steadfast love;
according to your abundant mercy
blot out my transgressions.
Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity,
and cleanse me from my sin.

O Lord, open my lips,
and my mouth will declare your praise.
For you have no delight in sacrifice;
if I were to give a burnt offering, you would not be pleased.
The sacrifice acceptable to God is a broken spirit;
a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.
