As part of the Handsoff NYC’s effort to defend our neighborhoods from ICE Upper West Side Action Group is organizing volunteers to distribute whistles along with flyers of how to use them to defend if ICE comes, know your rights and reporting ICE to people along Columbus Avenue from 110th to 105th Streets.

We’ll have a few tables with balloons, lots of whistles, literature, posters, stickers to distribute. You will need to join our zoom for an orientation on Friday, Nov 28 at 6pm.

We invite you to join an important campaign led by Riverside’s Anti-Racism Taskforce:

collecting 1,000 postcards urging the Mayor-Elect to fulfill the mandate to Close Rikers by August 21, 2027. Riverside gathered 100 postcards last year; this year, let’s aim for 200.

Closing Rikers is a moral imperative. It has long been a site of human rights abuses, where people—many living with mental illness—receive inadequate care and support.

Borough-based facilities will allow safer, more humane environments with stronger access to families, attorneys, healthcare, and services. If you’d like to volunteer to can collect postcards after worship, please let us know.
