Message in the Movie: Sinners

Join Riverside Cinemaphiles to discuss the themes of director Ryan Coogler’s new film, Sinners, which is now in theaters and has received international acclaim.

Set in 1930s Mississippi, the movie weaves together themes of sin, evil, and redemption, exploring them through the lens of history and racism. It uses church music and the blues to bring these themes to life. Oh, and it’s also a horror film with vampires!

The Washington Post calls Sinners “a Black challenge to white Christianity.“

Rev. Adriene Thorne and a panel of clergy and lay leaders from Riverside will share their initial reflections before opening the floor for discussion.
