An Update From Weekday School

On May 22, an email was forwarded entailing an outline of our short and longer-term plans around the Weekday School and Covid-19.  While we have different plans ready to unroll, the Department of Health (DOH) in New York City, which is our licensor, has not yet issued any protocols around reopening early childhood centers in the city. Chancellor Richard A.Caranza and The Department of Education are currently think-tanking models of ‘blended education’ (virtual and in-person) and no concrete plans have yet been shared. We presently have all of the necessary protocols in place in order to meet the CDC’s (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) requirements for a safe reopening, but our licensor is the DOH, not the CDC.

Our goal is to open directly following Labor Day. Right now, it is still too early to determine whether or not this is realistic.  Debra Frankel, Head of School, continues to meet regularly with both Riverside Faculty and the Reentry Task Force as well as with ISAAGNY (Independent School Admissions Association of Greater New York)  She will update Weekday families every other week, all summer and/or as quickly as we receive new information. We are all living with this uncertainty right now, and understand how challenging this can be, particularly around trying to plan for the future. Please know that it is our hope and intention that we begin in person, in September, and we are doing all that we can to try to make that happen.
