Response to Derek Chauvin Verdict

“We acknowledge the guilty verdict of Derek Chauvin and the relief the family of George Floyd must feel because justice is done. However, we also understand that this verdict does not change the reality that George Floyd’s family has lost a son, father, brother, confidant, and friend. While we might feel like celebrating in this moment, we recognize that, since 2015, police officers have fatally shot at least 135 unarmed Black men and women nationwide and, in so many of those cases, justice has never been served. We rejoice in the outcome of this verdict, but we will not lose sight of the fact that there is still much work to do. Our prayers will remain with this family in the days ahead.”
