Michael Livingston’s sermon that I learned of this history about George Washington our nation’s first president, Founding Father: He and his wife Martha Washington’s relentless pursuit of their runaway slave Ona/Oney Judge. What will strike you initially, I believe, are the Washingtons’ unrelenting malevolence & trickery in circumventing the laws prohibiting slavery in certain states.
What will also strike you — as it did me — as you learn more: How intertwined are profit, greed, and the economy of generational wealth (as enslaved Africans were the most valuable of all other inheritable assets) with the ideology of racial dominance.
