Guest Preacher: Rev. Karmen Michael Smith

Sermon: “They” Are Here: The Coming Out of Christ (Luke 4:16-21)

Born and raised in small-town Texas, Rev. Karmen is a Black queer theologian, cultural critic, and Lizzie Mae’s grandson. Karmen is the author of Holy Queer: The Coming Out of Christ and an advocate for Black and LGBTQ+ communities. He is also the founder and pastor at Poor Culture, an inclusive and affirming digital Black church experience. Karmen serves as Director of the Center for Community Engagement & Social Justice (CCESJ), at Union Theological Seminary, to advance the causes of social justice.

Note: In an effort to make sure you have everything you need, please remember to bring a hat, sunscreen, umbrella in case of rain, and comfortable shoes. Water and snacks will be provided for parade participants at the church, however, if you so choose, we encourage each of you to come prepared with snacks/packed lunch.
