Stepping into the Painting

Not only does a painting speak to us, it can inspire us to create something new from that conversation—a story or poem that helps us make sense of what it feels like to be alive. Shelley Benaroya, director of the Writing Center for Creative Aging, will lead us in lively discussion, writing invitations, and storytelling, as we learn how to interpret art in new and surprising ways. No previous writing experience required.

We will screen the documentary “John Lewis: Get In the Way.” Follow the journey of civil rights hero, congressman, and human rights champion John Lewis. At the Selma March, Lewis came face-to-face with club-wielding troopers and exemplified non-violence. Now, he is considered the conscience of Congress.
