A Letter from the Riverside Development Committee

Dear Riverside Church Family,

We are so pleased to be part of the Riverside Development Committee (RDC) and to have the opportunity to work with all of you as we envision our future together. This is such an exciting time for Riverside, and the possibilities of what we can do and achieve are extraordinary.

Over the next three years, we see the Congregation and staff working together to examine and reaffirm our vision and mission, and at the same time develop a plan to leverage our real estate to help us achieve our mission and financial sustainability so that we can continue to be a positive force for good in our community and the world.

The work we have to do is the work of the entire Congregation and staff – not the RDC alone. Our role as members of the Committee is simply to be the organizers/motivators/guides through the process. It will take each of us participating to make this a success!

So where do we begin? One of the first steps is for us to gather information and data we believe will educate us and assist us in developing our plan and reexamining our mission, and to engage the Congregation and the community in the process.

To that end, we have established the six subcommittees: Greening of Riverside, Congregational Survey, Community Assessment & Partnership Development, Real Estate Assessment & Development, and Communication. The description of each subcommittee is very general and is not meant to be inclusive of all the subcommittee will doing, but rather to give you an idea of the focus of the subcommittee. Each of these subcommittees will be working with staff and commission(s) which relate to the work of the subcommittee.

Keep in mind that this is just the beginning and it does not mean that this is all that we are going to do. There will be other subcommittees, other projects along the way, and many opportunities for you to become engaged in the process.
