November 11, 2018:
Racism & the Criminalization of Poverty

Join us on Sunday, November 11 for a discussion with Jeffery Robinson on the true history of the economic oppression of African-Americans from slavery to the present as reflected in his dynamic, multi-media exploration, Who We Are: A Chronicle of Racism in America.

The themes of Robinson’s presentation will be further explored by Alec Karakatsanis, Executive Director of Civil Rights Corps, Gina Clayton, Executive Director and Founder of Essie Justice Group, and Johnny Perez, Director of U.S. Prison Programs at National Religious Campaign Against Torture, who overcame three years of solitary confinement at Rikers as they focus on the systemic extortion of money from poor people by imprisonment and the dramatic repercussions for those left at home.

Performing artist Abena Koomsom-Davis will sing an anthem to Justice and poet and educator Randall Horton will recite poetry. The event is free and open to the public.
