Wednesday, June 19:
2019 Juneteenth Celebration at Carnegie Hall

Join Rev. Dr. James Forbes for the fifth annual Juneteen Celebration: All America Freedom Day at Carnegie Hall on Wednesday, June 19 at 7:00 pm.

In the spirit of the first Juneteenth celebrations in Texas in 1865, this celebration will include music, dance and, of course, messages challenging us to continue our efforts to become “a more perfect Union”. Channeling the wisdom and convictions of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., this year’s event embraces a theme of All America Freedom Day. Our community and the nation need an uplifting experience of being together in unity and love during a season so fraught with division and incivility.

This year’s event will honor individuals that have a commitment to civil rights and have been champions of justice for oppressors and the oppressed. Juneteenth is a most appropriate occasion for the celebration of the triumph of justice over forces of delay. Our invited honorees include Bishop Michael B. Curry, who delivered the homily at the royal wedding, and Bree Newsome Bass, who scaled the flag pole to remove the Confederate flag. Acclaimed broadcast journalist, Soledad O’Brien will serve as the evening’s Mistress of Ceremony. The creative Spirit will nurture us through the talents of Wycliffe Gordon, Cyrus Chestnut, Ebony Ecumenical Ensemble, and others.
