Faith & Social Enterprise Small Group

This class is an extension of the work of the Riverside Development Committee.  It is intended to give participants a theological basis for social enterprise for sustainability and mission at Riverside Church, a practical understanding of social enterprise, and an opportunity to imagine a social enterprise that would generate revenue while fulfilling a missional goal of the congregation or one of the commissions or programs of the Church. The class will be co-facilitated by the Rev. Charles King, the CEO of Housing Works and the co-chair of the Riverside Development Committee, and the Rev. Julius Walls, the pastor of Greater Hood AME Zion Church in Harlem and former Executive Director of Greyston Bakery. Texts for the course will include “A Future that’s Bigger than the Past”, by Rev. Samuel Wells, and “Mission, Inc.: the practitioner’s guide to social enterprise”, co-authored by Rev. Walls and Kevin Lynch.
