Welcoming the Stranger: The Impact of Race on U.S. Immigration Policy and the Call of the Church

January 17 @ 1:30 pm - 3:00 pm

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every week that begins at 1:30 pm on Sunday, repeating until January 31, 2021

Riverside’s Sojourners Ministry and Antiracism Taskforce are preparing this study of racism and the history of immigration policy which create our current crisis.

In her book, Illegal, political scientist Dr. Elizabeth F. Cohen explains how the American immigration system ran off the rails — and proposes a bold plan for reform. She reveals that our current crisis has roots in early 20th century white nationalist politics, which began to reemerge in the 1980s and have been full-blown under the Trump administration. Illegal makes clear that if we don’t act now, all of us, citizens and not, are at risk.

Looking at the history of immigration policy and the racism which creates our current situation, we will plan for actions that we as a faith community should take. For more information, contact: Craig Lemley, craigLL@yahoo.com
