Written, produced, directed by, and starring Charlie Chaplin, the The Gold Rush represents the apotheosis of the silent film era. Shoelaces become spaghetti and dinner rolls become dance shoes in this classic 1925 silent comedy, which chronicles the hilarious adventure of a young prospector who heads to the Klondike to join the 1890s gold rush.
A delightful blend of adventure, romance, and slapstick comedy, The Gold Rush encapsulates the height of Chaplin’s creative strengths and popularity as filmmaker and star.
