Race to Action: Anti Asian American and Pacific Islanders Racism

Join Riverside’s Antiracism Taskforce on Thursday, April 15 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. for a special Race to Action lab that focuses on anti-Asian American and Pacific Islanders Racism.
The lab will cover the history of anti-Asian violence in the United States and what’s going on now, and offer a panoply of ways to act in solidarity and support with Asian Americans and other targets of racism.
The lab will include time to take one such action – advocacy for U.S. HR 6721 / S 937 to facilitate the expedited review of COVID-19 related hate crimes.
Guest speakers will include:
Jo-Ann Yoo is Executive Director, Asian American Federation, the largest umbrella leadership organization in New York supporting the influence and well-being of diverse Asian American communities through research, policy advocacy, public awareness and nonprofit support.
The Rev. Laura Mariko Cheifetz is a Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) minister serving as an assistant dean at Vanderbilt University Divinity School, She has written and spoken widely on issues in the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community, most recently at CNN.com.
Cheifetz’s remarks will include the intersection of racism and misogyny as illustrated in the recent murder of six Asian American women in Atlanta-area massage parlors.
