Latinx in Black Skin: A Conversation on Race in the Latinx Community

October 10, 2021 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Racism, prejudice, and colorism have always been a present in Latin America and the Caribbean as well as within U.S. Latinx communities, a reality that for years has been denied, undermined, and overlooked. The recent controversy around casting light-skinned – rather than dark-skinned Latinx in leading roles in the movie “In the Heights” is just a small example of this large and painful reality.

Come physically or virtually for this multimedia program on Black Latinx sponsored by Riverside’s Latinx Ministry and Anti-Racism Task Force. Contact aremfigue@gmail.com for more information.

Panelists: Commissioner of Immigration NYC Raquel Batista, Dominicans Love Haitians Movement Founder Clarivel Ruiz, and human rights strategist and organizer Janvieve Williams. Moderator: TRC Latinx Ministry Coordinator Arelis Figueroa.
