Pursuant to Article IV of the By-laws of The Riverside Church, Section 3, upon the written notice of more than 10 voting members of the Church, the Church Council has called a Special Meeting of the Church for 1:00p.m., Sunday, June 12, 2022, in South Hall, for the purpose of voting upon the following resolution:
“Be it resolved that the conduct of Patrice Harrington, Karen McVoy, Challon Perry, Christen Walker-James, and Frank Nelson is and has been destructive to the spiritual and financial well-being of the Church, that these five members do not in any way represent this congregation as a whole, and that these members and their supporters shall immediately cease and desist from continuing to make claims of financial malfeasance against the staff and lay leadership of The Riverside Church; and
Be it further resolved that should these destructive actions continue on the part of those named and/or their supporters, the congregation reserves the right to consider such actions as grounds for removal from active membership in the Church.”
That is the resolution that will be considered at the Special Meeting.
Pursuant to the By-laws, this notice shall be publicly read by a minister of the Church or any Church Council member at a regular Church meeting for public worship on the two successive Sundays immediately preceding such meeting.
No action can be taken at a special meeting except upon the resolution specifically set forth in the meeting notice.
Because the By-laws do not permit on-line voting, and because no pandemic-related regulatory authority currently waives the requirement for in-person voting, all voting will be conducted in person in South Hall at the Church. The meeting will be live-streamed for members of the Church who wish to observe the meeting without speaking and voting.
