In the Gospels, when the people were hungry, Jesus took a few loaves and fishes, and everyone ate and was satisfied, and there was even food left over.
(Matthew 15:29–39)
This art show, “Creative Labor is Holy Work,” draws a parallel between Jesus’s act of nourishment and the work of artists.
Today, many artists are underfunded or working with limited resources, in an economy that exploits them. Many artists are only celebrated after they die.
“Creative Labor is Holy Work” gathers together local and underrepresented artists, whose labor sustains culture, challenges injustice, and feeds the spiritual lives of our communities.
If you are able, please come prepared to buy or invest in an artist’s work. Supporting artists is a form of activism.
When artists are fed, communities are fed.
All are welcome.
Creative Labor Is Holy Work is an upcoming exhibition celebrating creative practices that sustain culture, challenge injustice, and nourish the spiritual life of our communities. We invite local NYC and underrepresented artists to submit work for consideration. The goal of this exhibition is to connect artists with potential buyers and supporters.
• Artists whose work engages themes of care, nourishment, labor, or community
• Local NYC artists
• Underrepresented artists
Please submit:
• Images of original artwork
• A short artist statement (maximum 100 words) connecting your work to the theme
• Medium, dimensions, and price if applicable
• Links to your website or social media if available
We will consider both 2D and 3D works.
There is no submission fee.
