Beyond Chibok: Centering Survivors’ Voices & Understanding What More Needs to Be Done
April 13 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Join us on Sunday, April 13, 2025, from 1–4 PM to commemorate the 11th anniversary of the abduction of the Chibok Girls by Boko Haram. This event highlights the ongoing struggle for the nearly 100 girls still in captivity, alongside thousands of other women and children affected by conflict in Nigeria. Themed “Beyond Chibok: Centering Survivors’ Voices and Understanding What More Needs to Be Done,” the event is more than just a commemoration—it’s a call to action. The event features:
–A special screening of Daughters of Chibok, and a chat with the film director, Kachi Benson.
–A panel discussion with scholars from Brooklyn College, Harvard University, and NYU, as well as activists, who will explore:
• The experiences of girls and women in conflict across the world.
• The impact of the Chibok abduction and the evolving threats to women and girls
• The urgent actions that can bring about real change
–A moving spoken word and violin performance honoring the families of the Chibok girls—recognizing their resilience and unwavering strength.
–A West African–style lunch will be served.
This event will invite us to reflect deeply and ask: What can we do? It will challenge us to consider what more must be done to rescue those still missing, support healing and recovery, and work toward lasting peace.
